Ask Mr. Manners, with Buenos the Cat

Hey Buenos, I'm totally free spirited these days but I got in a relationship with a real dud.  Don't get me wrong, he's very supportive and all, but he's also very -- unimaginative.  I like to go places that are marked "off limits" or "do not enter," places like empty construction sites or the back room of a grocery store just to, you know, check it out and usually it's totally fine.  Even if I get caught I just pretend I'm lost and they usually just escort me back to the door.  But my boyfriend gets very nervous about it and I feel like I'm dating my mother all of a sudden.  What can I do to get him to loosen up? - Spirit of Sacramento

Well, SOS, I think I'm more in your boyfriend's camp than yours.  My owners have been putting me back on the roof because squirrels have been getting in their rooftop garden.  I've already talked about my fear of the roof and it's only gotten worse since they put some scary plants up there.  Well, add some scary squirrels and I'm pretty much terrified!  However, the squirrels do leave droppings which are quite tasty (very earthy and bitter) and I've found that the more frequently I'm forced to face my fears and the more squirrel pellets I eat, the less afraid I am of going back up on the roof.  Some days I even look forward to going up there.  Of course, the squirrels have already figured out that they have nothing to fear from me, so I think we might have a good thing going on -- the squirrels and the Buenos.  Anyway, if you maybe find something that rewards your boyfriend exploring his adventurous side you could get him to take more chances.  I bet he'll love a rewarding squirrel pellet after going to these dangerous places, but then again you know him better than I do.  Have fun SOS, but take it easy on him too!  I'm sure he wants to please you.

Do you have a question for Buenos?  Don't be afraid!  Just email him at!
